Churchinford Village & Our Local Surroundings
The Cabin is located just 1 mile from Churchinford Village an easy 20 minute walk, The village boasts The York Inn pub which has been awarded the accolade Somerset Pub of the Year 2023!
The village has a Community Shop which offers a wide variety of fresh and local ingredients as well as the everyday staples. It also offers fresh coffee and hosts a post office which can offer cash withdrawals amongst other services.
There is an abundance of local footpaths which offer circular dog and child friendly routes, you can find OS maps in The Cabin for you to use during your stay.
Otterford Lakes are a 20 minute walk away from the Cabin which hosts an abundance of wildlife, you can often see Otters on the shore at dusk.
The Blackdown Hills AONB Natural Landscapes
The Blackdown Hills Area or Outstanding Natural Beauty, recently rebranded to Natural Landscapes offers a plethora of walking, cycling and horse riding routes. As well as the breathtaking vistas, you can find a wealth of wildlife, including Otters, Red Kites and Deer.
Staple Hill and Castle Neroche are a short drive which offer cicrucle walking routes will lovely views peeking out from historical woodland and castle ruins. If you are energetic you can walk from one to the other on the historic Herepath.
You can find a significant number of medieval buildings and distinctive field patterns. There are also signs from our participation in World War 2 which Several airfields, some still in use, some repurposed and Culmhead, a short walk from The Cabin, is now a wonderful peaceful dog walking route.
You will find lots of information on the Blackdown Hills in The Cabin, along with suggested walking, cycling and horse riding routes and places to visit!
Further Afield
We are lucky enough to have the market towns of Honiton, Wellington, Taunton & Chard within half an hours drive.
Within an hours drive you and visit the wondrous Cheddar Gorge, the famous Glastonbury Tor and the lovely City of Exeter. We also have the historic West Somerset railway within easy reach as well as the home of Somerset Cricket and Exeter for our sports fans, not forgetting our local Smeatharpe Racetrack and the home of Everyman Racedays.
Situated in the middle of the West Country, both Norther and Southern Coast beaches are all within a 30 minute to 1 hour drive. The sandy beaches of Exmouth and and Lyme Regis to the South and Dunster and Minehead to the North. More jurassic beaches which offer fabulous fossil hunting can be found in Watchet and St Audries Bay (which also boasts a waterfall) and to the south Seaton with its Tramway, Charmouth and Budliegh Salterton.
